Je suis un voleur
A life almost entirely subjected to institutional violence and confinement. Since childhood, Loutfi, now aged 44, has been moved from one institution for young people to another, before serving several prison sentences. Over the years, he developed a desire to tell his story and turn it into a work for the stage. His encounter with Fabrice Murgia helped support and develop this project: to convey, through one individual’s story, an experience of confinement and a sensitive reflection on life “outside”.
Conceived for an intimate stage setting, in close proximity to the audience, Je suis un voleur unfolds the episodes of Loutfi’s life as a series of scenes brought to life by the performers. Through this extraordinary, almost novel-like journey, a whole world of closed institutions is revealed, with its violence and its dead ends that remain all too relevant today.
